Feature Title
Hundreds of runners gathered in Hoffman Estates on the evening of July 20, 2019 for a fun GloRun 5k. The day’s earlier temps of 100 degrees were noticeably cooler after some afternoon rain, but it was still around the 70s and slightly humid. Most people were decked out in glow bracelets and necklaces, wearing headlamps, and neon colors.
The race began at 8:55 pm, just as it was beginning to get dark, and followed a flat paved course around the AT&T Center. The route was clearly marked with reflective cones and arrow signs telling you which direction to go, which is important in the dark. The mile markers were huge glowing blow up cubes with upbeat music playing as you passed by. Participants could grab water at the water station in mile 2. There were only a few places that weren’t well-lit, but as long as you could see other runners and walkers either ahead of behind you, you didn’t feel alone in the dark! The race ended with a run through glowing, flashing arches for a fun finish.
Runners had the option of being timed or just doing a fun run for this race. Timed finishers received a medal at the end. The GloRun was part of the AMITA Health race series, which included a half marathon, 10k, and 5k earlier that morning and an inline skating marathon, half marathon, and 7k, which took place the following morning on July 21.
The top finishers were as follows:
