Mothers Day 5k Run/Walk- Barrington- May 2019
By: Krista Volk, All Community Events Ambassador
What a beautiful morning for the Mothers Day 5k! It was roughly 42 degrees, hardly any wind, and the sun trying to pop out. So many families attended, many young children were eager to run the kids dash that started at 7:50am, ten minutes before the 5k. There were many different waves for the little runners to ensure safety of all the children. So many excited faces as they crossed the finish line. Children took home a nice ribbon, to show their achievement.
The 5k began at 8am. Over 1,300 eager people lined up in their corrals a few minutes prior to start. The race was accommodating to runners, walkers and strollers. The course was hilly. As runners began the race, they started going uphill. But throughout the course there were also some really nice down hills. Runners ran the streets of Barrington, running mainly through neighborhoods past beautiful houses. There were many people out and about cheering for the runners on different corners throughout the course. Runners had to be careful on some of the roads since some of the streets had some little potholes. But again, this didn’t stop anyone!
Each finisher received a beautiful rose, along with water to rehydrate, a cake pop, cookie, and some trail mix to refuel! Runners spent time after the race taking pictures with their families in front of a nice Mothers Day backdrop.
